Eastgate Square Today
Eastgate Square is a shopping centre located at 75 Centennial Parkway in the City of Hamilton at the intersection of Centennial Parkway and Queenston Road.
Eastgate Square has been an important part of the East Hamilton and Stoney Creek communities since the early 1970s. We believe in Eastgate Square which benefits from an exceptional roster of best-in-class tenants at a vital location from which it continues to serve the local community’s needs. We intend to build on the long-standing strength of the mall and its proximity to the HSR bus services, the new LRT eastern terminus and the new GO station at Centennial by renovating and extending the core shopping centre to provide important commercial services to the community as well as offering a gathering place and social hub in the years to come.
Our Vision
Key Principles
Create a Transit-Oriented Community
Given that the site is next to a transit hub for several Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) bus routes and the proposed eastern terminus for the Hamilton LRT line, we are proposing to transform the site into a new, transit-oriented community with a mix of retail and residential uses.
Promote Connectivity
The proposed redevelopment of the site will better integrate Eastgate Square with the surrounding community by adding a network of internal streets and pedestrian connections that are convenient and accessible.
Our vision for the redevelopment of Eastgate Square is a new revitalized retail destination and vibrant residential community. The redevelopment of Eastgate Square will be the first transit-oriented community of its kind in Hamilton; a place where existing and future Hamiltonians can live, shop and meet with convenient access to transit.
Introduce High-quality
Public Spaces
The reimagined Eastgate Square includes a series of new green spaces and open space areas, which will provide placemaking and programming opportunities as well as establish a greater sense of place.
Provide a Mix of Uses
We will be providing a mix of new retail, residential, and public space uses on site to serve existing and future residents, workers, visitors, and community members for generations to come.

FAQ
-
Is the mall staying? Will you be renovating, demolishing or expanding any part of the mall?Eastgate Square has been an important part of East Hamilton and Stoney Creek communities since the early 1970s.

What is the timing for the proposed development? Have you submitted a planning application to the City of Hamilton? We are just at the beginning stages of the planning process. The full redevelopment will involve multiple phases and take place over many years. In August 2023, we submitted a Draft Plan of Subdivison (DPoS) application to the City of Hamilton which aligns with the Council-approved Centennial neighbourhoods Secondary Plan. The DPoS proposes the division of land for the southern portion of the property to accommodate a number of future mixed-use development blocks, along with a new east-west public road and new public park. This application will need to undergo the City’s review process.
-
Does the proposed development adhere to the Centennial Neighbourhoods Secondary Plan?Yes. The proposal is in keeping with the policies, including building height, set out in the Centennial Neighbourhoods Secondary Plan for this area, which was approved by City Council in 2018 following extensive prior consultation. At this time, as a first step, a Draft Plan of Subdivision Application has been submitted to help facilitate future development through the subdivision of the land into development blocks as well as the addition of a new park and road system. The further development of each block, including the redevelopment of the shopping centre, will be a part of subsequent Site Plan Control applications which will undergo additional City review and be consistent with the in-place zoning by-laws.
-
How will existing mall operations be impacted by the redevelopment of the site?Given that we are very early in the planning process, there are no anticipated impacts on the current operations of Eastgate Square as a result of the Draft Plan of Subdivision application. As we progress through the planning process, we will work closely with the community and local stakeholders to inform them of any impacts to mall operations.
